Founded in 2016 by Ryan New in Cape Town, The Original Grain Company has grown into an established agricultural business operating across Africa, with a presence in Johannesburg, Gaborone, Harare and Dar es Salaam.
The Company specialises in the sourcing, production, ownership and movement of selected agricultural commodities. With the capacity to transport significant volumes by road and sea, we connect farmers and supply partners with reliable markets across the continent.
We operate as the owner or direct purchaser of product rather than simply acting as an agent. This shortens the commercial chain, supports transparent negotiation and enables us to deliver quality agricultural products efficiently and at market-related prices.
Today, the wider Original Grain ecosystem brings together three specialist arms. The Original Grain Company provides commercial agricultural expertise, procurement, logistics and market access. The Original Grain Fund creates a structured route for capital to support productive agricultural operations. The Original Grain NPC mobilises CSI and grant funding to strengthen emerging farmers, food security and rural livelihoods. Together, the three arms connect capital, capability and market access across the agricultural value chain.
We remain committed to supporting farmers and farming communities, particularly within the Free State and other priority regions, by sourcing directly from farms and building practical pathways toward stronger and more sustainable agricultural enterprises.
Our commitments:
Simple, transparent, and fair trading for farmers
Premium commodities with full logistics support
